Plastic bag alternatives, are they better for the environment?

July 06, 2018 1 Comment

Since the banning of single use lightweight plastic bags in Australia (with the exception of New South Wales) on the 1st July, we are all a little confused as to whether these plastic bag alternatives (considered to be 'environmentally friendly') are actually better for the environment.

There are many factors that can affect whether these alternative bags are better for the environment, such as energy and water consumption during manufacturing, end-of-life use, and it's ability (or inability!) to biodegrade to name a few. However we have put together a very quick and simply outline for you to help you make an informed decision when you next purchase your lightweight plastic bag alternative.

Don't forget to Pin this to Pinterest so you can remember it for later on!

I’m confused now. Are LWPB better from a greenhouse gas point of view? Or looking at the alternatives, is the heavyweight plastic bag better than a cotton one?
