Last week my husband and I took the day off from work and spent the day at Bell's Rapids (a beautiful creek about thirty minutes drive from our house). Over the last few weeks both of us have been working hard on various projects, me with work and Michael with study/work and his own businesses. Our time had been filled with work, errands, markets, and study. If I wasn’t working, I found myself feeling guilty.
Over breakfast I declared that we were going to the creek to reward ourselves. The sun was shining and it was lovely just to get away from all things work, including housework.
We topped off the day by stopping in at our favourite coffee house for a caffeine fix in an otherwise slow and relaxing day.
It was a chilled way to spend the day and I’ve been thinking more about how I need to bring balance back into my life with work and play. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE my job, I don’t even consider it a “job” but rather a passion. However, I believe that having variety in your life is essential to recharge yourself. Behind the scenes, over the last few weeks I have been creating new designs, preparing for Christmas (yes, the curse of a business owner is that you have to be ready for Christmas by September) as well as supplying a bunch of new stores with the jewellery. It’s been busy and satisfying, but days like this remind me to stop and smell the roses (or, dip your toes in the creek).
