My vision for One Happy Leaf has been pretty simple. Create a business that has more of a positive environmental impact on the world than a negative. In the early stages of the business, the brand only consisted of jewellery for the sole purpose of reminding the wearer that it is possible to be beautifully styled using sustainable materials (click here to see why we use bamboo). With demand, we branched out into crafting homewares and products used for celebrations.
While we use sustainable bamboo in all of these products, we have also extended our environmental ethos into our packaging. We are proud that our packaging is also eco friendly.
All jewellery sold through the One Happy Leaf store is packaged in beautiful, durable (postal service proof!) paper boxes. The custom-made boxes are hand crafted on the Indonesian island of Bali. The boxes are made from post-consumer waste paper, collected from shops, hotels and offices. Re-purposing the waste paper into our beautiful boxes saves the paper from landfill, or from being burnt which is a common cultural method of disposing of waste in Bali.
The organisation responsible for this ecological packaging uses traditional and natural techniques to create the boxes without the use of chemicals (such as bleaches). In addition, organisation employs women from the local villages to provide a safe working environment.
Or packing is beautiful + it's eco friendly. What could be better than that?
