The first store owner to be interviewed for Happy Stores is Megan from Pookipoiga, based in Victoria. 

How did you come up with the name of your store?

Sree and I are travellers at heart, so we tend to gravitate towards those with a passion for exploring. We met some Finnish friends in Melbourne a couple of years ago, who just so happened to give us a Finnish language lesson at a party. It's a difficult, but fun language to learn. Pookipoiga is a word that stuck! It literally means 'little washer boy', which is the term they use for clothes peg.

Why do you stock One Happy Leaf jewellery?

We stock One Happy Leaf because Anna's ideology resonates right alongside our own. We focus on ethical, sustainable and local - all of which Anna's beautiful jewellery is. Not only is the jewellery beautiful and sustainable, the extra impact of planting a tree for every order is something that we love! If we can all do something little, it will add up to extraordinary.

What sort of products can your customers find in your store? 

We have an emphasis on upcycled and environmentally friendly, so alongside One Happy Leaf, you will find Tread and Pedals' clocks made from upcycled bicycle parts; cards by Ruby MacKinnon that are made from 100% recycled paper; Hunter Lab mens' products that only use natural ingredients; and so much more!

What do you love most about your store?

There are so many things that I love about Pookipoiga: I love that we are able to encourage our customers to shop consciously; I love being able to share the beautiful work of our artists; and I absolutely love being able to support the community - we donate a meal to the homeless through SecondBite with every purchase: they reduce the impact on landfill by rescuing excess foods from supermarkets, cafes and restaurants and redistribute to the homeless through community organisations.
